We’re incredibly lucky to have Gatineau Park in our backyard… And to be able to go there again! So here’s a list of trails in Gatineau Park that I think are super fun for kids.
P.s., remember to check when the parkways in Gatineau Park are closed to vehicle traffic before you go!
Carbide Willson Ruins Trail
This trail is super short at just 2.6 km round trip! And the ruins/waterfall combo that the kids get to see would be even more magical through their little eyes. Plus, The O’Brien Beach is right nearby so you can spend the rest of the day letting them splash around while you relax on the shore!
Pink Lake
This is another short trail, clocking in at only 2.4 km, but it feels pretty rugged and adventurous, especially for little legs! Lots of stairs and gorgeous views over the lake will have little ones feeling like they can do anything! Don’t let the name fool you- the lake is actually a beautiful green/blue colour, and kids will love going from up high right down to the shoreline where they can check out the little schools of fish gathered there.
King Mountain
This trail has a similar feel to Pink Lake, in that it’s short with lots of stairs and little uphill sections. But with the views that you get, your kids will really feel like they climbed a mountain!
The Lauriault Trail
This 5 km trail has a waterfall AND old ruins on the Mackenzie King Estate. What more could a kid ask for? I guess maybe some ice cream or something.
The Sugarbush Trail
Honestly this trail made it onto the list because it’s just so dang easy! The Sugarbush Trail is only 2 km long, and is accessible year round. In the winter it’s groomed so you don’t even need snowshoes. Kids of all ages/stamina levels will be able to complete this lovely loop in the forest.
The Lusk Caves
Some of you may not agree with me on this one because this is a 10 km round trip, but hear me out… There’s a CAVE! And the trail itself is actually super easy. Once you get there, the kids can go all the way inside a huge underground cave with a small river running through it. How cool is that?
What are your favorite hikes for kids in Gatineau Park? Did they make it onto this list?
