This year we went to Winterfest for the first time in years! Opinions on Winterfest aside, we had the opportunity to try out tubing as a family and thought it was so much fun. Our daughter cracked up laughing every time we went down the hill and if you’re a parent, you know that’s one of the greatest sounds in the world. So next I set out to find out where else we could go tubing in Ottawa (without waiting in line for 45 minutes).
Here are the hills I found near Ottawa that are built for tubing (and where they provide the tubes)!
Le Domaine De L’ange Gardien
Distance from Ottawa: 34 km northeast
Number of Runs: 8
Tow Lift: Yes
Cost: $21 per person for adults, $18 per person for kids over the age of 2
Notes: There’s a huge chalet on site with a restaurant inside, as well as a smaller cafeteria style café/gift shop. Washrooms are available. On the weekends they have horse drawn sleigh rides (at an additional cost of approx.. $5 per person). You can prebook your tickets on the website to make sure you get a spot.
Edelweiss
Distance from Ottawa: 44.5 km north
Number of Runs: 4
Lift: Yes
Cost: $32 per person for adults, slightly less for children.
Notes: Washrooms available, skiing on site as well. Website has been unreliable this winter but if you leave a message with customer service you’ll hear back from them within a day.
Countryside Adventures
Distance from Ottawa: 71.8 km southeast
Number of Runs: 10
Lift: No
Cost: $12 per person (family passes are available and a season’s pass is only $48).
Notes: Countryside Adventures also has a skating trail, snowshoeing trails, bonfires and a food truck on site. Dogs are welcome!
Parc des Montagnes Noires
Distance from Ottawa: 86.7 km northeast
Number of Runs: 3 (there are 2 in addition to this where you can use whatever gear you bring from home, so make sure you bring your crazy carpet!).
Lift: No
Cost: $16
Notes: Despite the distance, I’m partial to this hill because they also have STUNNING snowshoe trails on sight, where you can hike to an observation tower for a beautiful view. So you can really make a full day of it while you’re there, totally worth the drive!
*Pakenham is no longer offering snow tubing*
